This was done by exploiting the recently discovered chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect in order to achieve enantiopure product.
- CMAC Future Manufacturing Research HubPhD ResearcherONDERZOEKSCENTRAoktober 2015 - juli 2019 (3 jaren en 9 maanden)Glasgow, UKMy PhD research was based on the start-up and steady state of continuous manufacturing processes. The main aim of this was to reach steady state in the fewest possible residence times to minimize waste and maximize productivity, and determine the effects of process parameters on the steady state of the process. More specifically, I focused on the continuous crystallization of chiral molecules, and used preferential crystallization as a chiral resolution process to produce enantiopure products. By using various PAT tools such as FBRM, Polarimetry (to measure chiral purity) and spectroscopy techniques (Raman and UV-Vis) to measure concentration, the start-up and steady state of the continuous process could be monitored effectively. Furthermore, control strategies were put in place using these PAT tools to control and rectify any deviations from this steady state.
